I graduated high school in 2006 and headed to a community college with no idea what I wanted to do. About a year into that, I met with an advisor and told her I really enjoyed my accounting 101 class, and she suggested majoring in Accounting. It made sense to me, so that’s what I did. I graduated from Owens Community College in 2009 with my Associate of Applied Business in Accounting Technology degree. I started looking for accounting jobs, but I couldn’t find anything that would take my associate’s degree. So, I stuck to retail, which is what I did to support myself through college. I worked at a pharmacy retailer for about 7 years, then moved to a grocery retailer in 2012, where I stayed until 2015. At that time, things in my life were much different and I needed to get out of the retail industry.

I decided to go back to school, full-time, online with a 4.5 year old, an almost 2 year old, and a newborn. I know, crazy, right?! But, I needed to do something different. I had found a passion for health & wellness after having kids, so I decided to pursue this path. I graduated from Ashford University in 2017 with my Bachelor’s degree in Health & Wellness. The next week, I started a certification course to become a Holistic Wellness Coach. I went through the whole program but realized that coaching just wasn’t my thing. I dabbled in MLM businesses but didn’t thrive there either.

Around September 2019, life had become really difficult, and I knew I needed to make some big changes. I won’t go into all the details, but my life was turned upside down. I had to start over, pretty much from scratch. I got a job at a nursing facility and enjoyed that, but it didn’t pay as well as I needed. Then, Covid hit and I lost that job. I started working for Shipt, which was great because I could make my own schedule, and I enjoyed it. The only thing that wasn’t ideal was that it was hard on my body. I knew I needed to do something else. But, what?

So, my oldest daughter started getting into harder math in middle school. She despises math, but I’ve always enjoyed it. I was having fun helping her with it, so I started thinking about what I could do to get back into the numbers game. I’m not sure how I found bookkeeping courses, but I came across them somewhere online. I started thinking that this may be something I can actually do. I did my research on a few different courses, and I found one that seemed perfect. I started that course in October 2022 and finished in June 2023. I officially opened my very own business, Allay Bookkeeping Solutions, in July 2023. I still wasn’t sure if I could actually run my own business and be successful. Then, I got my first client in October 2023. It was such an amazing feeling! Then, I got another client, and another, and another…… Now, here we are. I’ve been in business for over a year, and I’m loving it so much! I’m so glad I took a chance on myself.
